10 Reasons to Try Postpartum Massage

December 10th, 2010 • Posted by Steven Metzger • Permalink

Here are 10 reasons to try a postpartum massage:

After nine months of pregnancy, plus delivery, your body has a lot of work to do. The transition will be much better with skilled body work from an expert. Here is why:

1. You need it.

Pregnancy, childbirth, and the first months of a baby’s life are demanding on a new mom. You deserve a little down time and pampering!

2. Your baby needs it.

Massage enhances the production of prolactin, a hormone that improves a new mother’s lactation.

3. It’s safe.

Massage is safe about one week after delivery (when the flow decreases and the red color subsides).

4. We welcome babies.

No babysitter? No problem! At Massage of Sacramento, you are invited to bring your newborn to a postpartum massage session; you can incorporate breast-feeding into the session as needed; and you are welcome to bring someone to watch over the baby during your treatment.

5. You’ll bounce back faster.

Special bodywork techniques will help you get back into shape – relaxing, balancing, and healing the bones and muscles that have been stressed during pregnancy and childbirth.

6. We’ve got the moves.

Stomach muscles separate during pregnancy, but we’ll show you some easy stretches for regaining a firm belly.

7. You can kiss your pain goodbye.

Massage, acupressure, and aromatherapy techniques will ease away your aches and pains, without the use of pharmaceuticals.

8. You’ll manage stress better.

Massage decreases the production of the body’s stress-related hormones. Less stress means a more relaxed mom and a happier family.

9. You’ll get your groove back on.

Massage and myofascial release techniques will restore proper postural alignment in your pelvis, back, and hips.

10. It’s an investment in your baby.

We’ll show you the basics of infant massage, so that you can enhance your baby’s sense of comfort and nurturing.
